I feel as though I have seen it all before with England, so I don't tend to get too excited about big tournaments anymore! However, I do care passionately about our national team, and it frustrates and angers me to see us fail so epically!
- 4.4.2. If an English Manager stuck to a 4.4.2 formation so stubbornly, he would be absolutely crucified by the press! No one plays this formation anymore for a reason! Which brings me on to....
- Our midfield. The BBC did a wonderful piece of analysis during the last Brazil match. It showed Melo and Silva's position on the pitch and where they touched the ball. They never went within 40 yards of the opposition box! They are both essentially shit players, but all they have to do is chase the opposition, win the ball and give it to their more talented colleagues! We have Gareth Barry and Frank Lampard in this position, both of whom are essentially attacking midfielders. Is it any wonder that they get overrun when faced with three technically gifted German players in and around them?!
- This affords the defence absolutely no cover, which is why we always concede under Capello, even during qualification we conceded a goal every game.
- That doesn't excuse the horrible defending for the first two goals yesterday!
- A lot of our players simply were not fit or on form.
- For all his repuation for being tough, Fabio has fallen into the same trap of picking his favourite 11 players and then trying to shoe-horn them into a team.
- The Goalkeeper situation before the first game was a farce. How can the team not know until two hours before the game which one of THREE goalkeepers is going to play?!
- There are underlying problems with the English game, namely the fact we don't produce players who can control and pass the ball, that are beyond Fabio's control.
However, for £6m a year, I expected much better and he has to go for me.
