The thing is, I agree it was a stupid thing to say, but like you said it is a 'bloke down the pub' comment.

If he had come out and publically stated he beleives in a conspiracy then he should live and die by his words. As it is he is being punished for having private thoughts, which in my opinion he is entitled to have however misguided they may be.

The paper publishing his private thoughts and conversations has the knock on affect of associating his personal thoughts with the FA, which is nonsense and has the potential knockon affect of jeapordising the bid.

The thing that really frustrates me about this though is the Mellissa Jacobs lady – I detest people like this that befriend noteworthy people then screw them by selling stories to the paper. She was supposed to be his friend, yet sold a story that was certain to cost him his job!

I find it sickening. I wholeheartedly believe that newspapers should have the right to publish what they want. No holds barred, but I think there should be a law in place to prevent people from profiteering from selling stories gained by getting involved with other people’s private life. If they are willing to give a story for free then so be it, but they should not stand to gain anything financially by pretending to befriend people then screwing them literally or figuratively. She made L75,000 by costing him his job.
