I think everyone gets Child Support, but the level of Child Tax Credit you receive is dependant on your income.
Gordon Brown made a big deal about the Tories cutting Child Tax Credits but the truth is they are just lowering the level at which you are no longer eligible for them, which in my opinion is too high anyway...£75K. If you have a joint income of £75k you shouldnt need tax credits (in my opinion).
I benefited from tax credits (because Nic quit work after having the baby), and still would under a Conservative government.
The current system pays you exacltey the same amount each month regardless of whther your joint income is £25k or £75k! All the Conservatives will do is reduce the high threshold to £50k. I think i got £100 a month from birth until her 1st Birthday, then £80 up to her 2nd, currently its £40 until July after which its £10. If Nic had gone back to work after maternity leave, the financial gain would have made the tax credit payment insignificant, yet we would have still received it (even though we didnt need it) AND we would still have got tax relief on the nursery fees as well...and we would have still been under the new proposed £50k limit!
I would imagine that if your mate is enjoying his new found weatlth as much as you make it sound, then his vote for Conservative wont make a blind bit of differance to the amount of child related benefits he receives!
